I love the flavor and sweetness the carmelized onions give to this sauce.
Pizza Sauce
2 28oz cans Scalfani Crushed a Tomatoes
1 15oz can Don Pepinos pizza sauce
2 large vidalia onions, finely chopped
2 TBS olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
In a large pot over medium heat add olive oil chopped onions, and sauté until carmelized, about 10-15 minutes. After the onions are done, add the tomato sauce, salt & pepper to taste. Over medium heat bring to boiling then reduce heat cover and simmer for an hour and a half to two hours. stirring occasionally. When sauce is done, remove from heat and let stand until cool. The sauce has the perfect consistency to spread on the pizza dough.
